With winter behind us, most of our winter clothes are disappearing back into the closet from whence they came. Before you put everything away, however, you may want to keep out the kids ski goggles; they are just as needed during the summer as they are in winter.
Goggles are made thick, highly glare resistant, and comfortable. These are great qualities in any season, and especially when the play tends to hard. The thick makes them great for many high-impact sports, such as climbing or paint ball.
The glare-resistance is great for dealing with the sun’s blinding light, which can be dangerous in some situations, especially when it can be a distraction or situations such as the beach.
Being comfortable is always good, especially during a season where there are so many uncomfortable situations, and they should be able to deal with sweat rather well.
Combined, all of these features mean that kids ski goggles are great for summer use, and should make their summer easier, making your job as a parent a little easier as well.
Obviously, the bright colors may be an issue, especially when camouflage colors are called for, such as for paint ball, but for most kids this is not that great of an issue.
The major issues to watch out for are the straps; although they were made for rough play, they were also made for a specific kind of weather (icy and cold) which requires that they be made a certain way.
They were not made for summer, especially climates that experience high heat; in those climes the straps of the kids ski goggles may turn brittle and fray easily, especially if they get a lot of wear.
In addition, they may scratch easily, especially if they are on the beach a lot. Both of these situations may make them wear faster, and so you may need to get more goggles come winter.
One other thing: Keep in mind that goggles are also heavier than sunglasses; this may be an issue with the smaller children, especially over long stays.
However, they are still great for any season. As long as you keep an eye on them, they should last through the season, and be ready for when winter comes again, and then they will be ready for yet another turn at what they designed for: Protecting your kids’ eyes from danger. Well, that and making your kids look cool, another admirable task.
